High-End Designers Make Clothing for the Masses

by Kid A on May 8, 2007

The New York Observer logoThe New York Observer has an interesting article discussing the growing trend of high-end designers doing mass market fashion at places such as H&M and Target. The article focuses on womenswear, but the trend is alive in menswear as stores like Uniqlo continue to invade the fashion arena with trendy fast-fashion clothing.

We find the article of interest because it suit our current philosophy of mixing high and low. We’re big believers in spending dough on classics that are wardrobe staples and being more economical on ‘here now, gone tomorrow’ trends.

This is a philosophy currently being shared by many demographics from old to young, regular folks to celebrities. (The article points out the fact that, “Sharon Stone made the minimalist statement of the decade when she eschewed her favorite designer, Vera Wang, and wore of a Gap turtleneck with a ball skirt to the Oscars”.)
