A man’s style is distinct and inherent to him.
A sense of style comes from knowing what works on the individual, not from the purchase of what’s ‘in fashion’.
An awareness of one’s self is critical. What do you feel comfortable and confident in? What do you feel awkward and ridiculous in? If you don’t feel confident when you look in the mirror, you won’t feel confident walking in the world.
The man of style will be aware of the trends happening on the runways or in the magazines. This perception will allow you to select that which best suits you, your wardrobe and your lifestyle from the offerings of the day.
Through a practical look at the current offerings, you should take away that which comforts you and is beneficial to your look and wardrobe. The succumbing to the ‘it’ fashions will result in a victim who will never understand style except for that which is dictated by the offerings running down the way.
The styles of the day are dictated by the people who can decipher that which will fit them literally and aesthetically. Someone with this sense will be able to form a wardrobe that is impervious to the assault of fashion trends.
An article in IHT.com, explains how Parisian’s use this philosophy in order to, “adapt fashion to their own styles and needs but never vice versa”.
This mentality will allow one to better navigate the constantly varying rules of fashion.
