For Fall/Winter 2008-09, John Varvatos presented a collection for the glam-ed out rock star.
Reflective peacoats, metallic silver button-ups and tailored jackets with added sheen are for the rocker who cares about how he looks. Leather jackets are still in the collection but this rocker is adjusting to tailored looks of suits and overcoats, even though a leather vest may sneak in under it.
These rockers look in the mirror and are unapologetically stylish, accessorizing with fingerless gloves, arm warmers and jumbo knit scarves that could probably double as a blanket. Varvatos is also teaching his guy how to layer putting shawl collar knits over shirts. And oh yeah, this guy is not afraid of knits, throwing a knit overcoat layered atop a suit.
With all this confidence it’s no surprise the Varvatos man knows how to rock color, bringing a dark, grey color palette to life with pops of a red scarf or red vest layered under a black coat.

To start, I am a big fan of John varvatos fan. I have followed the collection for a few seasons now and life in the heart of San Francisco, california. I fall into the John Varvatos core customer category. I just have to say that for the most part, the John Varvatos fit is awkward.
He has skinny slender models go down the runway, when the actual fit how his clothing is for a shorter stalkier man. Well, at least from my experience with his clothes compared to other brands of similar style, pricepoint and target market (ect.), John Varvatos really belongs on a guy who is 20 – 30* and is a bit more stalky in the chest.
The only thing that I suggest for John Varvatos is to me more conscious with the actual sizes that are being produced and placed in retail stores. We need to get a new fit model, or figure out a more appropriate amount of ease and rethink these things. The silhouette is great and modern, however the fit situation needs to be fixed.
I don’t mean to rant and rave. My apologies. I really do enjoy the new collection by JV, as always a great collection.
