BUCKLER SPRING/SUMMER 2009 RUNWAY REVIEW

by Kid A on July 29, 2008

For Spring/Summer 2009 Andrew Buckler found inspiration in medieval knighthood and fencing for his Buckler label.

Intertwined into this were concepts of sex, identity, love, alienation, and death by abstract expressionist and surrealist Louis Bourgeois. This was seen in designs that swung back and forth between medieval armour and modern day rock rebel.

Adornments were vainly incorporated for aesthetic purposes balanced with modern lightweight fabrics. Designs played with opposites of light and dark, small and big and tight and loose. A transformation could be seen in the collection as jackets shed their sleeves to become a different kind of garment.

A color palette was inspired by Brazilian artist Helio Oiticia’s and used deep blood reds, pistachio, mustard, dove grey, cadet blue and navy.
