Calvin Klein Back to Having Banned Commercials

The Calvin Klein people are back up to their old tricks.

The company hasn’t had a TV commercial since the Eighties, so this may be new for a younger generation. But 80′s-babies will remember Calvin Klein commercials and the controversy that swirled around them a la Brook Shields.

Now the brand has a new commercial so steamy it was initially banned from late night TV. The new Jeans commercial was shot by legendary fashion photog Steven Meisel and features grainy footage of male and female models basically dry-humping each other.

International countries such as Italy, Spain, France and Germany will show the uncensored version. Calvin Klein is working on an edited version to show here in the U.S. because we’re not supposed to know sex exists.

A print campaign of still shots from the commercial will hit March issues of the glossies.

Pretty good photo, IMHO. One thought. It looks like the same guy (to me) in 3 different poses.

If it actually is the same guy, that could be a valid CK counterargument against those arguing it is "obscene". CK could/should argue that it is meant to be a sort of an artistic timelapse photo (man is timelapsed, woman is not). Even if not true, the idea appeals to me and it gives one a whole other way to look at the photo.

I wish they made this advertisement with less homosexual men in it.

Or just the girl herself.

Dude, nothing homosexual about that. Every guy in the ad is fixated on the girl. I feel it provides an image of an empowered woman who is in direct control of the men around her. (IMO, that’s a good message)

that.. and lot of people who are completely straight find .. erm.. DP to be a lot of fun.

I completely understand you wanting to see fewer guys in the shoot. It’s a matter of preference. Me.. I really enjoyed it for it’s coverage of a large, but hypocritically suppressed part of human sexuality. There’s plenty of guy on girl, even girl on girl ads out there. IMO, they’re played out. Good to see something honest and original :)

btw… i’d love a little feedbackon this: I think the three guys in the shoot are really all the same guy.

If you look at the haircut that fades down to skin, body composition and face type… dead same to me. I think they did three different shoots and merged them!

yeah.. i had the same thought. they really all look like the same person.

makes the shot a little less interesting if that’s the case.

btw, totally agree with you on the empowering statement, you’re whole post as a matter of fact.

I feel this is a great example of the depravity of a Godless society. We removed God and the Bible from schools 30 years ago, and we’ve gone from respectable, cooperative, selfless people with dignity to a bunch of sex-starved, homosexual, bisexual, selfish, self centered bigots. This is sick…I’m scared to let my two girls see this disturbing perversion!!
